Collage Artist
Jonathon Baker

Jonathon Baker has been seriously interested and involved in Collage and Montage art since the early nineties, taking his inspiration from the works of collage master Winston Smith, and John Yates, their work appearing on the covers and in the booklets of records by hardcore punk band, Dead Kennedys. Fairly quickly, Jonathon began publishing artwork within his own magazine, Greedy Pigs (originally called Noise Annoys), and other magazines, such as Skratch, Direct Action Quarterly, Le Monde Diplomatique, Fracture, Impact Press, (the last two are both unfortunately no longer in print) Razorcake, Z-mag and others.

Jonathon has also provided illustrations for many bands and music events, and recently some designs for clothing label Babydoll Chic and Leamington-based hardcore punk outfit Section 13.

After ceasing to publish Greedy Pigs in 1998, Jonathon decided to develop and maintain a website to gain a more international audience, and to modernise his presence in the overall artistic community, the site has since evolved through many different versions from a basic six page gallery to a more interactive experience with contact information, notes written by Jonathon on each piece of artwork, and also some merchandise, including the possibility of some collections of artwork in the form of books in the near future.

In more recent times, Jonathon´s artwork has been used in other books, such as Peace Signs and Reproduce and Revolt, and he has also supplied poster designs for no RNC and Critical Mass, and even two known tattoos!

Since the beginning of 2008, Jonathon has opened a merchandise store in the fast growing Zazzle community, which can be found at www.zazzle.com/culturaldissection and also has various stores with Cafepress to further promote his artwork. Since then, Jonathon has created two more stores, both non-collage based, the first based upon a satirical approach to several revolutionary leaders and communist iconography, called Kommie Tees. The second is more in line with his interest in geek humour, called Geek Pride.

Jonathon has also set up a collage art blog called Cultural Dissection, designed not only to update on his activities, but also to highlight the artwork of other collage artists with news, features, and interviews.

On a non-collage related note, Jonathon has also taken up martial arts - pity him for his aches and pains.
